Dettifoss Waterfall
exteriors - landscape
Dettifoss is in Vatnajökull National Park in Northeast Iceland, and is reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe in terms of volume / discharge, having an average water flow of 193 m3/s. It is situated on the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river, which flows from the Vatnajökull glacier and collects water from a large area in Northeast Iceland. The falls are 100 m wide and have a drop of 45 m down to the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon. The waterfall can be reached by a new tarmac road, finished in 2011. On the west bank there are no facilities and the view on the waterfall is somewhat hindered by the waterfall's spray. On the east bank there is an information panel maintained by the staff of the National Park (Vatnajökulsþjóðgarður) and a maintained track to the best viewpoints. The closest populated areas include Vopnafjörður, Mývatn and Húsavík.

Glen Coe
exteriors - landscape
Often considered one of the most spectacular and beautiful places in Scotland, and a part of the designated National Scenic Area of Ben Nevis and Glen Coe, the narrow glen shows a grim grandeur. Approached from the east on the main A82 road, the glen surrounded by wild and precipitous mountains. Further west at Invercoe, the landscape has a softer beauty before the main entrance to the glen. The main settlement is the village of Glencoe. The name Glen Coe is often said to mean "Glen of Weeping", perhaps with some reference to the infamous Massacre of Glencoe which took place there in 1692. However, "Gleann Comhann" does not translate as "Glen of Weeping". In fact the Glen is named after the River Coe which runs through it, and bore this name long before the 1692 incident.

Tourists visit the area from June through late September, after which time the road is closed. A mountain lodge, in operation since 1951, can accommodate 78 people and has basic amenities.
